JAKARTA - Back pain is one of the health problems experienced by most people. However, back pain is not always something that can be underestimated because it can actually become a sign of serious illness.

One of the serious diseases that can be characterized by back pain is blood cancer. Especially if the pain appears in the spinal area.

"There are many causes of back pain, one of which is the spread of tumors from one cancer, one of which is blood cancer," said a specialist orthopedic consultant, dr. Anda Hendriarto, when met in the Panglima Polim area, Jakarta, written on Thursday, September 18, 2025.

"The ones who most often have spinal pain are lymphoma, blood cancer. And usually, not only do old ones but also sometimes very young," he added.

Limfoma is a blood cancer that can cause swelling in lymph nodes. This cancer begins when cancer cells attack lymphocytes, a white blood cell that plays an important role in immunity.

The type of waist pain that must be suspected as a symptom of blood cancer is non-mechanical back pain. This is back pain that occurs due to the inability of the spine to support body weight.

The waist pain will make it difficult for sufferers to sit or stand, even for a short time. Symptoms can also be accompanied by prolonged fever, decreased appetite, and weight loss, to frequent pain at night.

"So most often wake up in the middle of the night due to pain. If you wake up in the middle of the night due to pain (on the waist), most often tumors or cancers," concluded Doctor Andra.
