Great Fire In Jayapura: Allegedly Short Circuit, Firefighters Deploy Fire Trucks To Rantis
JAYAPURA - A total of 26 housing units in the Doc V Bawah area, Jayapura City, were burned down in the early hours of Thursday. The fire was allegedly triggered by an electrical short circuit.
North Jayapura Police Chief AKP Lukman Luking said the incident occurred at around 04.00 WIT in Palopo Village, Mandala Village, North Jayapura District.
"There were no casualties in the incident," said Lukman in Jayapura, Antara, Thursday, September 18.
According to witness testimony, the fire was first seen in the corner of the second floor wall of one of the houses. The initial effort to extinguish the fire by residents failed to stop the flames that quickly spread to the surrounding building.
A total of two AWC tactical vehicles belonging to the Jayapura City Police and Papuan Police, three fire engines belonging to the Jayapura City Government, and two water supply cars were deployed to extinguish the fire. The fire was successfully controlled at around 06.48 WIT.
Material losses due to this fire are estimated at IDR 4 billion. After the fire was extinguished, the Jayapura City Police Criminal Investigation Team conducted a crime scene (TKP) and unfurled the police line.
Lukman appealed to the public to check the electrical installation regularly to avoid similar fires.
