The 2026 State Budget Deficit Is Revised To Increase To IDR 689.1 Trillion

JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) has submitted a proposal to widen the deficit in the 2026 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) posture. This proposal was submitted in line with the increase in the state spending plan that year.

This change was conveyed by the Chairman of the DPR RI Budget Agency Said Abdullah in a working meeting with the Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadive. The agenda is part of the discussion and ratification of the Work Committee (Panja) report and level I decision making of the State Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2026.

Initially, the deficit in the 2026 State Budget Draft was set at IDR 638.8 trillion, or equivalent to 2.48 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). However, this figure is now being revised to increase to IDR 689.1 trillion or 2.68 percent of GDP.

"The deficit was initially 638.807.6 to 689.147.9. The percentage deficit for GDP, which was originally 2.48 percent, is now an adjustment of 2.68 percent, or there is an increase of 0.2 percent" he said during a working meeting at the DPR Building, Thursday, September 18.

The widening of this deficit was triggered by an increase in the target of state spending, which initially rose from Rp3,792.4 trillion to Rp3,842.7 trillion. Meanwhile, the projected state revenue remains unchanged at Rp3,153.6 trillion.

As a consequence of the increase in the deficit, budget financing needs also increased, from IDR 638.8 trillion to IDR 689.1 trillion.
