YouTube Admits The Decreased View Number Could Be Caused By Ad Blockers
JAKARTA YouTube has finally spoken about the phenomenon of decreasing the number of views that have been widely reported by creators since mid-August. In a statement, YouTube said that one of the reasons for the reduction in views could be due to the use of ad blockers, although other factors such as seasonal viewing habits and competition on the platform also play a role.
Many YouTubers have reported that the number of views on their videos has dropped dramatically in recent weeks. One of them is creator Josh Strife Hayes, who found that a sharp decline mainly occurred on computer devices, with views falling by 50 percent, while TV, cell phones, and tablets are relatively stable. These findings were later reinforced by TechLinked, one of the channels on the Badminton Tech Tips network, which is experiencing a similar trend.
YouTube recognizes this possibility by saying that extensions like ad blockers can affect the accuracy of the number of views.

"Ad blockers and other extensions can have an impact on the accuracy of view reporting. Channels with a large audience using such tools may see larger traffic fluctuations related to updates to the tool," explained YouTube.
Other Factors: Seasonal And Competition
YouTube also straightened out that the decline in views was not caused by Restricted Mode, as the public had speculated. This mode, which has been around since 2010 and is inactive by default, only accounts for a small part of the total daily view. In addition, this feature is also different from age protection for accounts under 18 years of age.
According to YouTube, there are several other reasons that can explain this phenomenon:
- The habit of watching the season, where the pattern of content consumption changes according to a certain period.
- Tight competition on the platform, which made several previously high-performance videos now back to normal view levels, so it felt like a drastic drop.
View Down, But Ad Revenue Is Not
Interestingly, although the view count fell, a number of large creators such asten Tech Tips said advertising revenue remained stable. This makes the allegation that ad blockers have more reasonable, considering that YouTube has recently been aggressively taking steps to limit the use of ad blockers.
With this official statement, YouTube seems to signal that the fight against ad blockers is getting serious, as well as a new challenge for creators whose audience base uses a lot of ad blocking extensions.
