Matt Cameron Finally Opened Up About The Reason For Withdrawing From Pearl Hours

Drummer Matt Cameron finally opened his voice about his surprising decision when he left Pearl Jam, the band he had been fighting for for 27 years, last July.

Announcement of his departure surprised many parties, especially fans who were worried that he would retire from the world of music.

But in a recent interview with Billboard, Cameron confirmed that he was still actively working and explained the reasons behind his surprising decision.

According to the 62-year-old drummer, one of the main reasons is the physical and mental challenges that are felt when you have to appear in a long performance with Pearl Jam.

"I had some problems with the three-hour show (Pearl Jam) and a constant tour," said Cameron.

He said the format of the show was a form of art in itself, but now, he has a different focus.

"I was at the point where I wanted to do a devastating 70-minute show, and that's what I'm focusing on right now."

Cameron emphasized that his separation from Pearl Jam was going well. He admitted that he had notified the band's personnel, including Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard, long before the official announcement.

"I've spoken to Jeff and Stone a little... Everything is fine," said Cameron. "Hopefully we can get together again someday and drink beer or something like that."

Although no longer with Pearl Jam, Cameron remains active in the music world. Apart from being involved in Soundgarden's last album project, he also formed a new band called Is This Real? and continued collaboration with Kim Thayil and Krist Novoselic in the 3rd Secret group.

Along with its recoil announcement, Pearl Jam has yet to provide an official statement regarding Cameron's successor. Meanwhile, Cameron will again make history by being named a double member at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in November, this time with Soundgarden. Previously, he had been sworn in with Pearl Jam in 2017.
