The European Union Warns Israel's Land Attacks On Gaza City Will Exacerbate Crisis

JAKARTA - The European Union's Head of Foreign Policy warned Israel's ground attack on the Palestinian city of Gaza on Tuesday exacerbated the situation in the region.

"This will mean more deaths, more destructions, and more evacuations," he wrote on social media X, quoted from WAFA September 17.

He added that the European Commission would meet on Wednesday to discuss potential measures, including suspending trade concessions and imposing sanctions on extremist ministers and settlers who commit violence.

"Resigning trade concessions and imposing sanctions on extremist ministers and settlers who commit violence is clearly a signal that the European Union demands an end to this war," he explained, quoted by the Daily Sabah.

As previously reported, Israel announced the start of land operations to Gaza City on Tuesday. An Israeli military official said the IDF had started the main stage of their ground operations to Gaza City, the main city center in the enclave, where Israel had ordered hundreds of thousands of residents to evacuate.

On the same day, the United Nations Commission for Investigation concluded that Israel had committed genocide in Gaza and top Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, sparked these actions - accusations that Israel called a scandal.

Last week, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced she would propose a package of action against Israel, by temporarily suspending bilateral support, suspending parts of the Association Agreement, and imposing sanctions on extremist ministers.
