Yusril: People Need Reform Political Parties And Elections
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra emphasized the need for improvement of political parties (political parties) through the revision of a number of laws, such as the Election Law, the Political Party Law, and the MD3 Law (MPR, DPR, DPD, and DPRD).
Yusril explained that after the amendment to the 1945 Constitution, the role of political parties was increasingly dominant. Legislative elections can only be followed by political parties, and the nomination of the president and vice president must also go through political parties.
"Therefore, we really have to fix political parties. Healthy democracy cannot be achieved if the political party itself is not yet democratic," Yusril said in a press conference after receiving an audience with the Civil Society Coalition for the Modification of the Election Bill, quoted from Antara.
He added that the revision of the three laws was urgent to support reforms in the fields of politics, law, and democracy.
According to Yusril, this effort is also part of the 17+8 demands of the people that the government continues to fight for in response to the demands of reform against the DPR.
"Changes in the DPR cannot be separated from reforms to the Political Party Law, Election Law, and MD3 Law," he said.

Previously, Commission II of the DPR proposed that discussions on the revision of the Election Law be carried out again in the commission. This follows the plan of the Legislation Body (Baleg) of the DPR which will update the 2024 '2029 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas).
"We propose that the Election Bill be discussed again in Commission II of the DPR with a legal codification mechanism or omnibus law," said Chairman of Commission II of the DPR Rifqinizamy Karsayuda, at the Parliament complex, Senayan, Monday (8/9/2025).
He explained that the codification method or omnibus would combine a number of related laws, such as the Political Party Law, the Pilkada Law, the Regional Government Law, and the MD3 Law, into the revision.
