Nigerian Military Kills 8 ISWAP Militants In Ambush In Borno
JAKARTA - Nigerian troops killed eight militants including senior commanders, from the Province of West Africa Islamic State (ISWAP) in an ambush along major supply routes in the northeast.
Clashes occurred Monday morning near Garin Giwa on Jalan Baga-Cross Kauwa in the state of Borno, an area often targeted by rebels aimed at disrupting military operations.
ISWAP fighters attempted to ambush patrols and troops managed to push back the attackers, the army said in a statement reported by Reuters on Tuesday, September 16.
Among those killed were ISWAP senior field commander Abu Aisha, Qaid of Tumbun Mota, and two middle-level commanders, known as Munzir.

Militants from Boko Haram and its splinter group, ISWAP, have caused thousands of deaths, mass evacuations, and a deepening humanitarian crisis in northeastern Nigeria during their attacks on security forces and civilians.
