Coordinating Minister Yusril: President Prepares Presidential Decree Forms Of The Police Reform Commission

Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections (Menko Kumham Imipas) Yusril Ihza Mahendra said President Prabowo Subianto was preparing a Presidential Decree (Keppres) related to the formation of the Police Reform Commission.

The commission was formed to formulate various ideas of changes that need to be made to the body of the National Police, which will then be submitted to the President.

"There is no target yet when it will be formed, but indeed the presidential decree has been prepared and may be sworn in for the day or two," said Yusril when met in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, September 16.

According to Yusril, the commission will be given several months to complete the formulation of Polri reform, including reviewing the position, scope, duties, and authorities of the police institution.

If the formulation has been completed, the idea of Polri reform will be outlined in the revision of Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the Indonesian National Police.

"The law, which has been implemented for more than 20 years, needs to be re-evaluated so that it is in accordance with current conditions and the demands of the community," said Yusril.

President Prabowo was previously said to have immediately formed a commission to evaluate and reform the National Police. Police reform is one of the public demands, including the Nation Conscience Movement (GNB) which contains interfaith figures and community leaders.

On Thursday, September 11, at the Jakarta Presidential Palace, NAM conveyed the aspirations of the National Police reform directly to President Prabowo in a dialogue session that lasted about three hours.

Earlier also conveyed by the Nation's Conscience Movement the need for evaluation and reform of the police, which was also welcomed by the President, (who) will soon form a team or police reform commission. I think this is also on the demands of the community which are quite a lot," said Pastor Gomar Gultom, a member of the NAM.

Dalam kesempatan yang sama, Menteri Agama Nasaruddin Umar mengatakan aspirasi reformasi Polri yang disampaikan GNB telah direncanakan dan dirumuskan konsepnya oleh Presiden Prabowo. Namun, teknis dan detailnya diserahkan kepada Presiden untuk menjelaskannya kepada publik.

On the same occasion, Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar said the aspirations of the National Police reform submitted by GNB had been planned and the concept formulated by President Prabowo. However, the technical and details were left to the President to explain it to the public.
