Condemns Israel's Attack On Qatar At The Arab-OKI League Summit, Foreign Minister Sugiono: Tragic Consequences Of Decades Of Impurity
JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono said Israel's attack on the Qatari region last week was a tragic consequence of decades of impunity.
This was conveyed by Foreign Minister Sugiono while attending the Arab League Emergency Summit and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OKI) in Doha, Qatar on Monday.
"Indonesia condemns Israel's recent aggression against Qatar. This aggression is a gross violation of international law, UN Charter, and the principles that underlie the establishment of the OIC," Foreign Minister Sugiono said in a speech, as quoted from the website of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tuesday, May 16.
"This aggression is not only an attack on Qatar sovereignty, but also a serious threat to regional and global peace, as well as any attempt to negotiate peace itself," he stressed.
Israel launched an attack on Doha, Qatar on September 9, targeting senior Hamas officials who are members of a peace negotiations effort to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas said none of his senior officials had died, but confirmed the deaths of six people as a result of the attack, including a son of a Hamas official and a Qatar security officer.
"What we witnessed in Doha was not an isolated incident. This is a tragic consequence of decades of impunity," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.
"And let us be clear: the Palestinian issue is not only about Palestine. It is about the survival of our nation, the dignity of our people, and the confidentiality of international law," he stressed.
Foreign Minister Sugiono reminded that the summit must produce a clear, principled and united collective response.
"Indonesia believes this summit should not only issue collective condemnation of Israel, but also urge the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its mandate by taking firm and urgent steps to ensure accountability and prevent its recurrence," explained the Indonesian Foreign Minister.

"For Indonesia, the path to eternal peace remains the same: the realization of a sovereign and independent Palestinian State, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on relevant UN resolutions," he concluded.
It is known that the emergency summit led by Emir Qatari Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani was held in response to Israel's attacks on Qatar on September 9, targeting a delegation of negotiations from Hamas, attended by leaders and representatives of 57 members of the OKI and 22 members of the Arab League.
In a joint statement consisting of 25 points, the summit's participating countries condemned Israel's attack on Qatar on September 9 as a coward move and violated international law.
