Indonesia's Role In The United Nations For World Peace

YOGYAKARTA Since joining the United Nations (UN) in September 1950, Indonesia has consistently demonstrated its role to maintain world peace. Indonesia also continues to echo its rejection of the form of colonialism that disrupts peace. Apart from this, this article will discuss what is Indonesia's role in the United Nations in the field of peace.

It should be noted that the United Nations is an international organization that aims to seek world peace. Although this effort is noble, the United Nations has many limitations in carrying out its peace mission. In order for the peace mission to be achieved, Indonesia as a country provides full support to the United Nations.

In a book entitled 25 Years of Indonesia UN, it is explained that Indonesia's main contribution to the United Nations lies in global peace and security. In addition, another role is efforts to resolve conflicts, and its participation in the UN peace mission.

Indonesia is also an active country on global issues such as sustainable development, climate change, to improving human welfare.

Indonesia's support for the UN mission is not just a discourse. There are various concrete steps taken by Indonesia, some of which are as follows.

Reporting from the setkab.go.id website, Indonesia's contribution at the United Nations to support the organization's mission is to send international peace and security forces (peacekeepers) in conflict areas. The support is in the form of sending thousands of personnel (TNI and Polri) to peace missions that are upheld by the United Nations. Indonesia is also ranked 10th largest in the world as the country that sends troops/police to the United Nations (Troops/Police Contributing Countries TPCCs).

Non-permanent members of the UN DK are countries that can participate in maintaining world peace. Guard efforts are carried out with permanent members, but they do not have veto rights. Indonesia itself has several times become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, namely 1973 1974, 19951996, 2007 2008, and 20192020.

The Human Rights Council (HRC) is part of the United Nations which has important tasks such as protecting and advancing human rights in the world, discussing human rights violations, and much more. In the department, Indonesia was elected several times, namely 2006, and re-elected in 2007 and 2010.

As one of the UN member countries, Indonesia became the pioneer of the Non-Aligned Movement. The movement emphasizes neutrality with any major global force so as to reduce tensions that occur, especially the war between Western and Eastern blocs.
