Government Places IDR 200 Trillion In Banking Via Deposit On Call Scheme

JAKARTA - Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadive said the placement of government funds amounting to Rp200 trillion in national banking in the form of deposit on call.

"Deposit on Call means it's not a time deposit but this kind of close is quite like a sufficient liquid giro," he explained when met before a meeting with Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy Office, Central Jakarta, Friday, September 12.

For information, Deposito on call is a type of time deposit with a call at any time. Different from time deposits, deposits on calls are deposits that can be taken at any time by customers, provided that with a minimum notification of 1 to 30 days earlier, but the period of time deposits on calls varies depending on the policy of banks.

Purbaya said that this decision was taken taking into account banking liquidity.

"But we can calculate what our liquidity looks like, so it should be banking quite safely if you want to use the money," he said.

He emphasized that the placement of these funds aims to encourage liquidity in the financial system and accelerate lending to the real sector.

When asked about the remaining balance of government funds still in Bank Indonesia (BI), Purbaya explained that the amount was fluctuating because there were budgets that had not been spent.

He emphasized that the funds placed in commercial banks did not come from the Remaining Budget Financing (SiLPA) or Over Budget Balance (SAL), but government cash funds that had not been used.

"This is what we use, not Silpa (SAL Sir?) It's not just our money being moved, so the variation depends on our tax revenue, but I'm sure this is it, once the tax road economy will also enter bigger, so I'm not afraid of the government's liquidity production, for example," he explained.

Furthermore, he explained, the funds in BI cannot be accessed by banks, so if they are placed in commercial banks, banks can use them for productive activities.

"This is not an emergency fund, funds have a government that is usually used for shopping but has not been spent while it is in the central bank so banks cannot have access to the funds if I am in commercial banks, banks can use it if we don't use the goal, it creates liquidity in the financial system, so they are forced to give credit and the economy will move," he explained.
