Independent TPF Searches Missing Persons To Actors Of Riots In August

JAKARTA - The independent fact-finding team formed by six national human rights institutions (LN HAM) will investigate allegations of missing persons and rioting actors in a series of demonstrations from late August to early September 2025.

"Of course, we will identify all the events that occurred from August 25 to September 25, whether they were not found, lost, have not been found, then sick, died, and others," said Komnas HAM Chairman Anis Hidayah as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, September 12.

According to Anis, data on missing people who have entered the National Human Rights Commission is still dynamic. However, he said there were three people whose identities Anis had not been identified as missing since the end of last August.

"Most of the missing ones have actually been found and have been in contact with the family," he said.

In addition, he said it was possible for the independent team to explore the involvement of certain institutions in demonstrations and riots that were suspected of being accompanied by violence.

Anis also ensured that his party would conduct a comprehensive search for facts.

"This means that all things that occur, whether violence, whether arbitrary arrests, or victims who died, affected victims, and others will all be identified," he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of Komnas Perempuan Sondang Frishka Simanjuntak said the fact-finding team from LN HAM would identify comprehensively things that happened before, at the moment, and after the incident.

He said that each LN HAM who is a member of the independent team will work according to the flow and mandate they have.

"From there we can be identified who plays the role in, there are state actors, there are non-state actors, and also how the patterns occur," said Sondang on the same occasion.

Six LN HAMs officially formed an independent team to find facts about demonstrations and riots from late August to early September 2025 in Jakarta and a number of other areas in Indonesia.

The team consists of Komnas HAM, Komnas Perempuan, the Indonesian Ombudsman, the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK), the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), and the National Commission for Disabilities (KND).

Anis explained that there is no specific deadline for this team to work. Nevertheless, he ensured that the team would work effectively and efficiently. Once completed, the findings and recommendations will be reported to the President and DPR RI.
