Taiwan Reports Indomie's Findings Containing Ethylene Oxide, This Is What BPOM Says

JAKARTA - Taiwanese authorities have just reported finding pesticide content, ethylene oxide in Soto Banjar Limau Kuit variant Indomie products. The ethylene oxide content is at a level that does not meet Taiwanese standards.

Regarding this, the Head of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM), Taruna Ikrar, admitted that he was already in his attention to be followed up.

"Yes, it has entered our attention related to noodle products, right. That has entered our attention, ethile oxide," said Taruna Ikrar to the media crew, Friday, September 12, 2025.

Taruna Ikrar said that BPOM will currently conduct further investigations regarding this matter. Currently, communication with the relevant authorities is being carried out.

"The technicality is in accordance with the standards. Later we will continue further related to it, because now we are communicating with the existing authorities," he explained.

When asked about the discovery of ethylene oxides in Indomie products not only this once, Taruna Ikrar confirmed. He promised that the follow-up would be carried out immediately.

"This has become our attention, and we will follow up," he concluded.

Meanwhile, Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) previously said that etylene oxides in the Soto Banjar Limau Kuit variant Indomie products were detected in the powder wrappers of 0.1 mg/kg. Based on Taiwanese standards, ethylene oxides should not be present in food and should not exceed 0.1 mg/kg in permitted products.

Residents are then advised to throw away the product if they have purchased it. It is highly inappropriate to consume the product because it is said to be harmful to health.
