Bali Floods, PDIP Legislators Ask The Ministry Of Public Works To Pay Attention To Drainage-Strengthen Green Infrastructure

JAKARTA - Member of the House of Representatives from the PDI-P faction Commission V Irine Roba asked the Ministry of Public Works (PU) to pay attention to drainage and strengthen green infrastructure.

The statement was made in response to the major flood natural disaster that occurred in the Bali area.

"First, I would like to express my condolences for what happened in Bali. This tragedy is a strong alarm for local and central governments that the disaster mitigation, drainage and spatial planning system in Bali has not been able to answer the challenges of development and climate change." he said, Thursday, September 11.

"The loss of lives and losses of billions of rupiah are not only due to extreme weather, but also due to development governance that ignores the carrying capacity of the environment." he continued

Irine emphasized that the Ministry of Public Works should coordinate with other ministries so that they can conduct spatial audits and strengthen green infrastructure so that flooding does not repeat itself.

In addition, he also reminded that people's safety is something that needs to be prioritized

"This flood serves as a reminder that people's safety is the highest law. Don't let Bali, the world's storefront, sink due to negligence in protecting nature and spatial planning," he said.

Not to forget, Irine also emphasized that ideally the program that is prioritized by PU at this time must be able to prioritize the interests of people's purchasing power.

"Second, in Kompas' article in the economic column; written about how When consumption/buy power increases, investment will move one quarter later. However, if the investment is encouraged first, consumption will not change much." he said

"So in all priority programs of the Ministry of Public Works today, the hope is that the goal is to support directly or indirectly the purchasing power of the people," continued Irine.

With this increase, it is hoped that it will have an impact in various sectors. That way, the economic turnaround of the community will run.

"As mentioned earlier by the chairman at the opening, how will the community be comfortable working if the basic facilities cannot be fulfilled. The fuel subsidy will not be felt so much when fuel consumption is still very large due to road damage. Or people's purchasing power is reduced when the funds are used to deal with disasters," said Irine.
