Kremlin Rejects Comments On Drones Entering Poland, Denies Allegations Of Provocation

JAKARTA - The Kremlin declined to comment on Poland's statement that Russian drones violated its airspace. The Kremlin emphasized the authority of the Ministry of Defense.

Poland shot down a drone in its airspace on Wednesday with the support of military aircraft from its NATO allies. This is the first time a member of the Western military alliance has been known to have opened fire during the Russian war in Ukraine.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said it was a large-scale provocation and the closest open conflict we have faced since World War Two.

"In this case, we don't want to comment on it in any way. This is not our responsibility - this is the prerogative of the Ministry of Defense," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Peskov said the Kremlin had not received any contact requests from Poland, but dismissed allegations by the European Union and NATO that Russia had provoked.

"EU and NATO leaders accuse Russia of provocations every day. Most of the time, even without trying to provide any arguments," Peskov said.

The Ministry of Defense has so far not commented on the drone incident in Poland.
