Undip Resident Doctor Sued 1.5 Years In Prison In Extortion Case To Junior Rp1.9 Billion

SEMARANG - Specialist Doctor of Education Program (PPDS) of Diponegoro University (Undip) Semarang, Zara Yupita Azra, was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison in a case of extortion against a junior resident.

The Public Prosecutor of the Central Java High Prosecutor's Office, Effita, in a trial at the Semarang District Court stated that the total extortion value carried out by the defendant against the PPDS resident class 77 reached Rp 1.9 billion.

"To declare the defendant guilty of violating Article 368 of the Criminal Code paragraph 1 concerning crimes with the intention of unlawfully benefiting oneself or others, forcing a person with violence or threats of violence," said the prosecutor in a trial held Wednesday, September 10.

Of this amount, the fees collected included being used for a prolong meal fee of Rp. 235 million, a snack of Rp. 197 million, a separate activity of Rp. 91 million, a jockey for Rp. 86 million, to other support needs worth Rp. 46 million.

"There are still Rp1.2 billion of the total number of incidents in the 77 force of Rp1.9 billion that have not been identified," he said.

The prosecutor said that the fees collected by class 77 were not only enjoyed by the force, but also senior residents in the 8th semester.

The defendant's actions, which took place throughout 2022 to 2023, were carried out with threats and psychological pressure, thus creating a system that made the 77th batch of residents have no choice but to comply with the request. In their consideration, the prosecutor assessed that the defendant's actions were carried out in a structured and massive manner.

"The defendant as a resident in an educational environment should not allow the culture of manipulation of absolute power to develop," said the prosecutor.

Atas tuntutan itu, Majelis Hakim yang dipimpin Muhammad Djohan Arifin memberi kesempatan terdakwa menyampaikan pembelaan pada sidang berikutnya.
