Erdogan And Putin Discuss Tensions In Gaza By Phone

JAKARTA - Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed tensions in Gaza and Jerusalem by phone, according to the Turkish presidency, as Ankara seeks international action against Israel.

Israel launched hundreds of airstrikes on Gaza on Wednesday morning as the Islamist group Hamas and other Palestinian fighters fired rockets at the border, in the most intense attack in years that killed at least 35 people.

Reported by Antara, Erdogan told Putin the international community needed to "notify Israel of a precautionary rebuke," adding that Ankara was working to move the action, a statement from the president's office said.

Turkey has also called for the task to be done on deploying international peacekeepers to the region to help protect the Palestinian people, a proposal Turkey has made since 2018.
