Google Will Block Sideload Apps From Unverified Developers

JAKARTA For years, Android has been much superior to iOS because it provides sideloading systems. With this system, users can download apps from outside the Google Play Store.

However, this will begin to be limited starting next year. Google plans to block download actions outside of official platforms, particularly as on websites. This will apply to downloads from unverified developers.

This move makes Android implement controls similar to systems that Apple has been using on iOS. Developers who distribute apps outside the Play Store are now required to verify their identities.

This verification will be carried out through a new Android Developer Console. Google states that this change aims to improve user security. With verification, the company wants to prevent the spread of malware through sideloading methods.

However, this new registration process is separate from the existing Play Store system. This means that developers must go through an additional bureaucratic process. However, Google will not check the function or workings of the application.

This change raises huge concerns among users. Many useful applications are not allowed on the Play Store, such as ad blocking or modified apps. These applications rely heavily on sideloading to be installed.

For example, applications such as AdGuard which serve as ad blocking in all systems are prohibited on the Play Store because of its policies. Without sideloading, users will lose access to applications of this kind.

This new policy will also have an impact on individual developers and open source communities. Developers who are just a hobby now have to register only to install their own apps.
