Banyuwangi Celebrates Prophet's Birthday With Endhog-Endhogan Tradition

JAKARTA - Every momentum of the Prophet Muhammad SAW's birthday, the people of Banyuwangi have a unique way to celebrate it. One of the special traditions that are always awaited is endhog-endhogan, a cultural and religious procession that has been passed down from generation to generation by local residents.

This tradition is carried out by decorating boiled eggs using colorful paper flowers which are then locked on decorated banana sticks. The atmosphere is then paraded around the village or placed in a mosque, accompanied by salawat chanting, barzanji reading, dhikr, and prayer together.

The Regent of Banyuwangi, Ipuk Fiestiandani, who was also present and released a parade group in Kembiritan Village, Genteng District, emphasized that the endhog-endhogan was not just a celebration, but also a symbol of people's love for the Prophet Muhammad SAW.

"Endhog-endhogan is not just a festival full of excitement, but also a form of our love for the Prophet Muhammad," said Ipuk Fiestiandani in Kembiritan Village, Genteng District, Banyuwangi Regency, as quoted by ANTARA.

In the parade, residents performed various creations of Islami nuances. Starting from replicas of the Kaaba, boats containing egg cones, date palm trees, to miniature camels with their rider. Not a few participants also brought placards bearing the names of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, friends, and his family, complete with other magnificent ornaments.

The Regent of Ipuk appreciated the enthusiasm of residents who have always maintained this tradition with full togetherness, the spirit of mutual cooperation, and boredom. He also hopes that the excitement of commemorating the Prophet's Birthday through the endhog-endhogan festival can be a way to achieve the favor of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.

In addition, Ipuk also reminded the public to continue to maintain the peace, security, and comfort of Banyuwangi, so that this tradition continues peacefully and meaningfully.
