Old IPhone Can Use ChatGPT Integrated Siri, Here's How

JAKARTA Since launching Apple Intelligence to iOS 18, Siri's function has increased. The virtual assistant can now access ChatGPT, OpenAI's Artificial Intelligence (AI) model.

Unfortunately, this capability is limited to a number of devices due to processor restrictions. Only high-end devices such as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 can access ChatGPT which is integrated with Siri.

This means that there are millions of older iPhone models that cannot access the feature. Fortunately, there are several alternative solutions for old iPhone users who want to ask Siri to take answers from ChatGPT. Here are some ways, according to Apple Insider.

Use Applications or Shortcuts

The first easy way is to use the official ChatGPT application for iOS. Once installed, you can ask Siri to access ChatGPT with a command like 'Ask ChatGPT'. Siri will then forward your request to the app and read the answer.

For better reliability, you can also create special shortcuts. At least, this indirect way feels similar to what Apple Intelligence offers. With this method, any iPhone that runs iOS 18 can still use ChatGPT.

Use API Lock

If you want to try a more flexible way, you can use the OpenAI API key. You need an OpenAI account, take the API key, then paste it in a shortcut. Siri will send the text to API and return the answer.

However, this method has costs. OpenAI only provides a few offers in free mode. After that, each request will be charged. Use intensively can be expensive.

OpenAI API costs vary depending on the model you choose. For example, GPT-5 can be very expensive, while lighter versions such as GPT-5 mini and GPT-5 nano are much cheaper. The advanced o1-pro model can reach 150 US dollars (Rp 2.4 million) per million tokens.

Keep in mind that these two alternative solutions do not have privacy protection such as the official system. Apple's system removes identity details before sending a request to OpenAI. Meanwhile, this artificial route will send your request directly.
