Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Encourages Thorough Investigation Of Indonesian Diplomat Murder, Peru Increases Security
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is pushing for a full investigation into the murder of one of its best diplomats at the Indonesian Embassy in Lima, while the Peruvian government will increase security for the mission of representatives of the Republic of Indonesia in the country.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the death of the Indonesian Embassy in Lima Zetro Leonardo Purba. The deceased was the victim of an unknown party shooting while riding a bicycle in the Av area. CESar Vallejo, Agile, Lima on Monday 1 September.
The deceased was rushed to Cl Marijuana Javier Prado, but his life could not be saved.
"The Peruvian National Police Authority (PNP), together with the Homicidios and DEPINCRI (Jesusmen) Division, have conducted a crime scene investigation and secured evidence including collecting surveillance camera footage around the location," wrote the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement Wednesday night, September 3.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the forensic and thorough investigation process was being carried out by involving the local prosecutor's office.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono has communicated directly with Peruvian Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer to encourage an investigation to be carried out thoroughly, transparently, and quickly, including the smooth return of bodies to the country, while ensuring protection for diplomatic staff and Indonesian citizens in Peru.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Embassy in Lima continued to accompany the family of the deceased and closely coordinated with the Peruvian authorities regarding the autopsy and repatriation of the bodies to Indonesia.
On the other hand, the Peruvian Government has expressed its deep condolences and affirmed its commitment to accelerate the investigation process.
The Peruvian government will increase police security for personnel and facilities of the Indonesian Embassy in Lima including families and Indonesian citizens living in Peru, said the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Peruvian government has also offered all the support needed for the investigation process, the ministry added.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the Indonesian government will continue to oversee the investigation of this case, as well as ensure the best protection for Indonesian citizens in Peru.
The late Zetro, who left a wife and three children, is known to have started serving at the Indonesian Embassy in Lima on May 1, 2025, after previously serving at the Secretariat of the Directorate General of ASEAN Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
