President Prabowo, Putin, and Kim Jong-un Accompany Xi Jinping at China's Military Parade

JAKARTA - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stood with Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un while watching the Chinese military parade in Tiananmen Square, Beijing, China, on Wednesday.

President Prabowo, President Putin, President Xi, and Leader Kim were in the middle of the row of heads of state and government attending today's military parade, as shown in a KompasTV YouTube broadcast by Viory, as monitored from Jakarta, Wednesday, September 3.

Previously, during an official group photo session, the four leaders were also seen in the front row, with Chinese First Lady Peng Liyuan between President Xi and Leader Kim.

As they walked to the observation tower to watch the parade, President Xi was flanked by President Putin, and Leader Xi was in the front row, along with the heads of state and government, as well as invited guests.

As previously reported, President Prabowo flew to Beijing on Tuesday evening to attend the military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people's war against Japanese aggression and the world anti-fascist war on Wednesday, September 3.

Initially, President Prabowo reportedly canceled his planned visit to China, which was a direct invitation from President Xi Jinping, to focus on addressing domestic issues, which were currently plagued by massive demonstrations in several regions.

Prabowo took off from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, East Jakarta, on Tuesday, September 2, at around 8:00 PM Western Indonesian Time (WIB) aboard the PK-GIG Presidential Aircraft.

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi explained that President Xi Jinping's invitation had originally been scheduled for August 31, 2025. However, President Prabowo had postponed his departure due to the dynamic situation within the country.

Furthermore, the Chinese government also strongly hoped that Prabowo would be able to attend the invitation, even if only for one day.

"In the past few days, there has been a very strong request from the Chinese government for President Prabowo Subianto to attend at least one day, at the 80th anniversary commemoration and at the Chinese government's military parade," Prasetyo said in his statement.

Prasetyo said that Prabowo's departure to China was based on numerous considerations, including the current state of society.

Prior to his departure, Prabowo first monitored and received reports that public life was gradually returning to normal.

"Therefore, to maintain good relations with the Chinese government, the President has decided to depart tonight and return to Indonesia the following evening," he said.

In addition to attending the event, President Prabowo is also expected to meet and interact with several world leaders in attendance.

"Of course, he will meet with world leaders, especially President Xi. We hope, we all hope, that during his visit there will be discussions that, we hope, will benefit the relationship between Indonesia and the Chinese government," he concluded.
