Patrick Kluiver's Intervention In Calvin Verdonk's Move To Lille

Calvin Verdok has officially become part of Ligue 1 club LOSC Lille. Behind his decision to move to France, it turned out that there was interference from the Indonesian national team coach, Patrick Kluiver.

Calvin Verdonk admitted that he had discussed with Kluivert before making the decision to join Lille. You see, Kluivert turned out to have defended Lille when he was still active as a professional player in the 2007/2008 season.

"I spoke with Patrick Kluivert about LOSC. He just told me positive things about this club. He still has friends here," said Calvin Verdok, quoted from Lille's official website, Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

Verdonk's decision to join Lille also made him make history as the first Indonesian player in the French highest level league. Verdonk also admitted that he was very proud because he could be part of Lille.

"I am very proud to join LOSC. I clearly knew this club before joining. LOSC is a great French club, which won the league (Ligue 1) and the Trophee des Champions (Super France Cup) trophy in 2021. Lille performed in a tough league, with very good players."

"My target is to develop as a player, as well as personally, and why not win trophies?" said Verdok.

Lille's efforts to bring Verdok from NEC Nijmegen were not easy. The club even had to pay a transfer fee of 3 million euros, equivalent to Rp57.9 billion from the Dutch club.
