Jaguar XJ220, The Forgotten Legendary Supercar Now Appears In Auctions With Spectacle Conditions

JAKARTA For some automotive enthusiasts, Jaguar XJ220 may not be the first name that comes to mind when talking about the 90s supercar. However, this car is a speed monster that once broke a world record, and a rare unit now appears at auction, ready to lure collectors.

Mentioned as a supercar that is often neglected, it was reported that Car and Driver, Monday, September 1, Jaguar XJ220 was actually one of the fastest production cars in its time, able to penetrate a speed of 217 mph (about 349 km/hour).

A stunning 1993 unit, wrapped in the rare Le Mans Blue color, is now auctioned off on the Bring a Trailer platform. The auction for Jaguar XJ220 is scheduled to end on September 5 and the highest offering price at the time this news was written is at 371,000 US dollars or equivalent to Rp6.1 billion.

What makes it even more special, this car has a very low distance, only 5,000 miles (about 8,000 km).

The presence of this car is not only interesting because of its condition, but also because of its unique history. This car spent 12 years in a tally building in Tokyo before it was imported to Los Angeles and appeared at the Jay Leno's Garage. Now, with the official certification of Jaguar Heritage, this car offers undisputed authenticity.

Fully Controversy Machines, But Full Of Strength

One of the most famous stories from XJ220 is the change of engine. The initial prototype introduced in 1988 used a V12 machine. However, the production model was eventually equipped with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo engine that had a history of rally events. Although in the early 90s many doubted this choice, the V6 machine proved to be extremely powerful.

With 542 cellphones and 475 lb-ft torque, XJ220 easily outperformed its rivals at that time. In comparison, the Porsche 911 Turbo era has nearly 200 lower power phones. This fierce force is channeled through manual transmission of five accelerations to the rear wheels.

The exterior design of XJ220 itself is fairly elegant, with charming aluminum body and different rims (17 inches ahead and 18 inches behind). Compared to its rivals, Ferrari F40, XJ220 is considered more comfortable and practical to use as a grand tourer, making it a better choice for long-distance travel.
