President Zelensky Calls Shooting Suspect Who Killed Paruli Politicians Successfully Arrested

JAKARTA - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday morning a suspected shooting that killed former MP Andriy Parubiya was arrested.

"The suspect has given initial testimony," President Zelensky said through the Telegram messaging application.

"A urgent investigation is currently underway to reveal all the backgrounds of these killings," he added.

Parubiy, 54, was shot dead in the city of Lviv, western Ukraine, on Saturday in what President Zelensky called a "terrible murder" and "security concerns in a warring country."

Parubiy served as chairman of parliament from April 2016 to August 2019. He was one of the protest leaders in 2013-2014 demanding closer relations with the European Union.

"I thank law enforcement officials for their quick and coordinated work. All the details of these horrific killings must be disclosed," President Zelensky said.

The suspected shooter was detained overnight in the Khmelnytskyi area of western Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko's Interior Minister said via Telegram.

"There are many details that cannot be shared at this time," said Klymenko.

"I would only say the crime was carefully planned: the movement of the victim was studied, the route mapped, and the escape plan was carefully thought of," he added.
