Pickup Car Enters River In Serang, 1 Died, 12 Selamat

SERANG - A Daihatsu Grandmax Pickup car carrying 13 people had a single accident and entered the river on Jalan Irigasi Sentul-Pamarayan, Serang Regency, Banten, on Sunday night, causing one passenger to die.

Operations Controller of the Operations Control Center (Pusdalops) BPBD Serang Regency, Joni Effendi, in Serang, Monday, confirmed the incident. He stated that he had received a report from the Kragilan Police regarding the incident at 22.00 WIB.

"It is true, there has been a single traffic accident that caused a four-wheeled vehicle and 13 passengers to enter the river," said Joni, quoted by ANTARA.

Joni explained that the victim who died in this incident was identified as Ridwan, a 29-year-old man who works as a private employee and has his address at Cisait Village, Kragilan District, Serang Regency.

According to Joni, the chronology of the incident began when the silver pickup with police number B-9294-tar was on its way to the Cisait area. The vehicle is known to carry a total of 13 passengers.

"Arriving at the scene of the incident in Pabuaran Nagreg Village, Dukuh Village, the driver allegedly lost control so that the vehicle swerved to the right and immediately fell into the irrigation river," he explained.

As a result of this incident, all passengers fell into the river. A total of 12 people managed to save themselves, but it was unfortunate for Ridwan who could not be saved because his position was squeezed by the body of the car in the water.

Joni added that a joint team consisting of BPBD Serang Regency, Banten Basarnas, Koramil, Polsek, and assisted by local residents immediately carried out the evacuation process for victims and vehicles. The victim died and was then immediately taken to Serang Hospital.

"For the latest conditions, all survivors and those who died have been successfully evacuated to the riverbank. Vehicles have also been lifted and towed by the accident unit to the Serang Police Headquarters for further handling," said Joni.
