JAKARTA - Ditlantas Polda Riau through Sub-Directorate Regident held a Cheap Food Movement (GPM) in Pekanbaru City, Saturday, August 30. This activity is one of the efforts to maintain food price stability in the region.
As many as 400 sacks of rice measuring 5 kilograms or the equivalent of 2 tons of rice were distributed to the public at an affordable price of Rp. 60 thousand per sack.
The activity, which was led by the Head of Sub-Directorate for Registration, AKBP Fatikh Dedy Setyawan, took place at two points, namely Jalan Jenderal Ahmad Yani in front of the Santa Maria Church and in the courtyard of the Jalan Cempaka Gang Pe'eng UPTD Office, Sukajadi District.
In this activity, hundreds of residents seemed to crowd the location to get cheap rice whose quality was considered better than the market price.
The National Police seeks to be present not only in providing traffic services, but also to ease the burden on the community. Through this program, it is hoped that the community will find it easier to get basic needs at affordable prices," said AKBP Fatikh, Saturday, August 30.
In addition to distributing cheap rice, Fatikh continued, personnel from the Ditlantas Polda Riau also took advantage of this opportunity to greet motorists and provide education about traffic rules.
"The presence of Polantas in this activity presents a humanist face, helping basic needs while at the same time reminding the importance of driving safety," he said.
Anton, one of the residents who bought cheap rice packages, admitted that he was greatly helped. According to him, the price of basic necessities distributed by the Riau Police is cheaper than the market and the quality is also good.
"We hope that programs like this will continue so that the community will be more helped," he said.
Meanwhile, the Dirlantas of the Riau Police, Kombes Taufiq Lukman Nurhidayat, explained that the Cheap Food Movement was part of the National Police's strategy to maintain food stability while strengthening closeness to the community.
"The National Police wants to ensure that public access to basic commodities is maintained. The presence of this program is also a form of our dedication to the community, both in maintaining traffic security and in responding to the basic needs of the community," he said.
The cheap food program itself is a central government policy that is carried out simultaneously by the National Police together with Bulog in various regions, to suppress the surge in food prices and keep inflation under control.
The government ensures that the national rice stock is sufficient and food distribution interventions are carried out so that people can still obtain basic commodities at affordable prices.
Cheap food activities in Pekanbaru run safely, orderly, and receive a positive response from the community.
The Riau Police hopes that this step will become a bridge that brings institutions closer to the people as well as maintain social and economic stability in the regions.
