Kuantan River Kembali Jernih Berkat Operasi Peti, Masyarakat Apresiasi Polda Riau
JAKARTA - The Batang Kuantan River in the Narosa Bank area, Kuantan Singingi Regency is again clear after being polluted for a long time due to unlicensed gold mining activities (PETI). This condition was greeted enthusiastically by people who could take advantage of the river.
Chairman of the Daily Leadership Council (DPH) of the Riau Malay Traditional Institute (LAMR), Datuk Seri Taufik Ikram Jamil, expressed his great appreciation to the Riau Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryyawan and his staff for the success of the PETI eradication operation.
"It is extraordinary, we should appreciate the work of the Riau Police. The Kuantan River water is back clear and becomes a place for local residents to play. It is extraordinary that the General, an achievement with a broad dimension, will always be remembered well. God willing, it will be a charity of worship," said Datuk Taufik, Thursday, August 28.
It is known that people use riverbanks to swim, play, and enjoy the panorama of the sunset.
The river now shows the clarity of the water and small fish that have reappeared among the rocks, indicating that the ecosystem is starting to recover. The Pacu Line cultural area, which has been disrupted for the past two decades, now appears to be alive again.
Taufik assessed that success was not only a matter of law enforcement, but also saving Malay culture and identity.
"River water is a reflection of Malay life. If the river is damaged, culture will also be damaged. Alhamdulillah, the Kuantan River is now back to being clear," he added.

The Riau Police noted that 234 dompeng units had been destroyed from 52 PETI locations along the Kuantan River.
Of the seven police reports processed, 16 people have been named as suspects. The operation was also focused on Kuansing ahead of the Pacu Line Festival, to ensure the river was completely sterile from illegal mining.
In addition to taking action, the Riau Police also prepared educational steps by providing alternative livelihood training, such as agriculture and livestock, so that people no longer depend on PETI activities.
The actions taken by the Riau Police have ecological and cultural values. A clean river will maintain the sustainability of the Pacu Line as the largest cultural event in Riau.
