Demo August 28 Ricuh, MRT Jakarta Anticipates Passengers To Explode

JAKARTA - PT MRT Jakarta has prepared a number of anticipatory steps in dealing with the potential for a surge in passengers due to the August 28 demonstration around the DPR building which has now turned into chaos.

The move includes additional personnel at several stations, both security officers and customer service, to strengthen crowd management.

"Intensive coordination is also carried out with other public transportation modes, and related security agencies," said Acting Head of the MRT Jakarta Corporate Secretary Division Ahmad Pratomo in his statement, Thursday, August 28.

Engineering in the flow of passengers is also prepared when there is a density, including setting up queue lanes, opening additional manual gates, distributing passengers on the platform, to the possibility of temporarily closing certain entry access and evacuating passengers if needed.

However, MRT did not increase train operations today. The distance of waiting between trains or headways remains as usual, namely 5 minutes during peak hours and 10 minutes outside of peak hours.

"However, monitoring is carried out intensively so that it can immediately respond to every development of the situation in the field," he said.

"MRT Jakarta is committed to ensuring that services remain conducive, safe, and comfortable for all users even though there is a potential increase in passengers due to the external situation," he continued.

It is known, on Monday, August 25, passenger density occurred at MRT Jakarta stations. This was the result of a demonstration that resulted in engineering the Commuter Line operating pattern, coupled with rainy conditions.

MRT Jakarta noted that customers at Lebak Bulus Station on August 25, 2025, rose by around 37 percent compared to the daily average.
