911 Emergency Call Service Uses AI To Handle Non-Emergency Calls
JAKARTA The 911 Emergency Call Center decided to adopt a solution from Aurelian, a startup that develops Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based innovations, in responding to calls.
This partnership was disclosed by Aurelian on Wednesday, August 27. The company stated that it had received USD 14 million Series A funding led by the NEA.
Initially, Aurelan developed an AI-based voice assistant to reduce the burden of booking appointments for a salon. However, over time, Aurelan began developing voice assistants that could reduce the volume of non-emergency calls.
In accordance with its duties, the technology that the startup develops will not respond to emergency calls. This AI voice assistant will only address general issues, including reports of noise complaints or parking violations.

This AI system is specially trained to recognize the real state of emergency. If there is a real emergency call, AI will immediately forward it to the human operator. That way, 911 can focus on more pressing legislation.
Since its launch in May 2024, AI assistant Aurelian has been used in more than a dozen shipping centers. Some of them are in Snohomish County, Washington, and Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Although there are other startups that offer similar solutions, Aurelan claims the product is superior. According to one of the NEA partners, Aurelian is the only startup that is already in operation and handles thousands of real 911 calls every day.
