Rape Cases In Bangladesh Soar, Human Rights Organization Criticizes Police Performance
JAKARTA - A number of women's organizations in Bangladesh criticized the police's performance after launching reports of a spike in rape cases in their country on Wednesday, August 27.
Muslim Fauzia, president of the Bangladeshi human rights organization Mohila Parishad, said the number of sexual violence experienced by women in her country in the last six months since January 2025 was the same as the total cases last year.
"Violence against women increases when there is a decline in law and order," Muslim told AFP, warning of "deliberate efforts in society to create an 'anti-female' atmosphere," Fauzia said in the report, Wednesday, August 27, quoted from AFP.

The report is based on findings in cases of sexual violence published in national newspapers.
According to the report, there were 364 rape cases in 2024, compared to 354 cases in the first half of 2025. The organization says that the actual figure is likely to be much higher.
The Bangladeshi police did not comment specifically on the increase in sexual violence, but said that the widespread deteriorating security situation was troubling.
"This is a crisis situation, and the police are trying their best to control it," said Bangladeshi Police spokesman A H M Sahadat Hossaine.
