India Opens All Dam Doors, Pakistan Threatened With Floods
JAKARTA - India opened all major dam doors in rivers in thetensive region after heavy rains. India warned neighboring Pakistan about possible flooding downstream.
Reported by Reuters on Wednesday, August 27, Pakistan said Islamabad received the warning, and then issued a flood warning in three rivers flowing into the country from India.
India and Pakistan have been hit by heavy rains and floods in recent weeks.
The province of Tehran, Pakistan's heart, faces a "very high risk of flooding" due to a combination of heavy rains and excess water released by India from the dam, which then flows across the border.
Pakistan's Tehran serves as a country's food barn and is home to half of its 240 million population.
India regularly releases water from its dam when the dam is too full, with excess water flowing into Pakistan, as the two countries share rivers.
