Uribe was a member of the city council of Bogota in the late 80s and a senator from the Colombian Conservative Party in the early 90s.
Previously, Uribe had never planned to run for President of Colombia. However, that changed after his son, who decided to kill the president, was killed.
He was again known to the public during his son's nationally broadcast funeral, when he delivered a speech condemning what he called a state setback for "crazy" under the rule of the left-handed Colombian President, Gustavo Petro.
At that time, Uribe urged the Colombian people to vote in the election next year.
Apart from Uribe, there are four candidates for presidential candidate from the Democratic Central Party, the conservative party that Uribe belongs to. The party has stated that by the end of this year, they will use a poll to determine which candidate deserves to run for the 2026 Colombian presidential election.
