Destroying The Car Of The Office Of The Governor Of Southwest Papua And Fasum In Sorong, 10 Suspected Perpetrators Arrested

WEST PAPUA - The Southwest Papua Regional Police (Polda) arrested 10 suspected perpetrators who were suspected of destroying public facilities (fasum) and blocking roads during a mass action in Sorong City, Wednesday, August 27.

The head of the Southwest Papua Regional Police Brigadier General Gatot Haribowo explained that currently the 10 suspects who have been detained are still undergoing examination and it is possible that the number of arrested perpetrators will increase.

"Because we are still investigating this case, it is still possible that the perpetrators can increase," explained the Kapolda at the Sorong City Police Headquarters (Polresta), Wednesday, which was confiscated by Antara.

Data related to perpetrators of destroying government facilities, including the official car of the Governor of Southwest Papua, Elisa Kambu, is also being identified by the police.

"The perpetrator who was arrested was related to the destruction and provocateurs," he said.

Kapolda said the road blockade and destruction of public facilities in Sorong City were carried out by people living in villages and affected by incitement to take to the streets.

"So that in conditions like this, apart from being allegedly the impact of provocation, there are also those who are drunk and so on. They take part in taking action on the road by blocking and burning tires on the main road, and destroying them," he said.

Gatot said that currently the joint forces of the TNI and Polri had gone down and cleaned up the remaining materials to block the blockade. Security personnel also continue to be on standby to anticipate further movements.

"There are approximately six points of blockade and burning tires on the road, such as in front of Ramayana, Jalan Baru to be precise at the prosecutor's office and court, as well as the provincial and Sorong city government office complex," he said.

The mass anarchist action began with the Sorong District Attorney's move of four political prisoners in the alleged treason case who are members of the Federal State of the Republic of West Papua (NFRPB) to Makassar, South Sulawesi.

The four people with the initials AAG, NM, MS, and PR were named as suspects in the alleged treason case related to NFRPB activities. Transfer to Makassar for trial purposes.

Until now, the situation and condition of Sorong City have gradually recovered. However, joint TNI and Polri personnel are still on guard at several strategic points to anticipate further disturbances.
