BPS Says Onion Prices Continue To Rise, Reaches IDR 100,000 Per Kg In Intan Jaya Papua

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that there has been a trend of rising prices for shallot commodities lately.

On average, the current national price of shallots is IDR 53,098 per kilogram (kg).

The increase in prices on this commodity needs to be the government's concern.

Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said the price of shallots continues to rise, even an average increase of 12.79 percent in the third week of August 2025.

"This red date continues to increase and currently in August the third week the average shallot rose 12.79 percent, compared to July 2025. The average national shallot is IDR 53,098 per kg," he said in an inflation meeting broadcast on the Ministry of Home Affairs' YouTube, quoted Tuesday, August 26.

Winley, his nickname, said that when compared to the Sales Reference Price (HAP) which is in the range of Rp36,500 to Rp41,500 per kg, the current price of shallots is far above the benchmark limit.

Referring to the Data from the Market Monitoring System and Poko Needs (SP2KP) of the Ministry of Trade, it is noted that the highest price of shallots occurred in Intan Jaya Regency, Papua.

Prices in the region reached Rp100,000 per kg. Meanwhile, the lowest price for shallots is Rp22,400 per kg.

Winley said this trend of price increases needs the attention of the government. This is because 85.83 percent of regions in Indonesia have experienced price increases, with a total of 309 affected districts/cities.

"We have also conveyed at the beginning, we need attention for this shallot commodity, because there are already 309 regencies/cities that have experienced an increase (price) for shallots," he said.
