Pandles Trend Increases, Doctor Reminds Serious Threats To Eye Health

JAKARTA - Pedel sports have recently become increasingly popular in Indonesia. Pedel fields have started to appear in various big cities, so many artists and public figures have also popularized them. However, behind the excitement of this game, there is a danger that is rarely realized, namely eye injuries due to padel balls.

An eye doctor from JEC Eye Hospitals, dr. Ferdiriva Hamzah, Sp.M, gave a serious warning about this risk. He admitted that almost every week he always accepts patients with case of eye injuries due to padel balls.

"Recently, almost every week I always have a patient's eyes hit a ball, because it is disturbing. From mild to severe cases," said dr. Ferdiriva via video uploads on his personal Instagram account @ ferdirivahamzah.

According to him, the injuries caused vary. Some only experience red eyes, some of which are injured, swollen eye nerves, and some have to be sewn with their eyes. More worrying things, some cases end up with permanent blindness.

"From those whose eyes are only red, the dinea is injured, the nerves of his eyes are swollen, until there are those whose eyes have to be sewn. In fact, some have permanent blindness, this is very dangerous," he explained.

Therefore, dr. Ferdiriva strongly recommends the use of sports protective glasses when playing padel. Although it looks trivial, this protection can save vision from permanent damage.

"So, it's a suggestion from me to wear sports protective glasses, before this happens to you. You'll regret it later, because the eyes are blurry or permanently damaged," he added.

He also mentioned the assumption that some people who feel strange or are not used to wearing protective glasses during sports.

"If there are friends who say, 'no culture, wear protective glasses', just let it go. Just use it, for real, later you will regret it." he said.

Pedel is indeed a pleasant and healthy sport, but the risk of eye injury should not be underestimated. Wearing protective glasses is not just a matter of style, but an important step to maintain safety and prevent blindness.
