BNPB Prevents Fire In Nagan Raya, 2 Pump Machines Deployed Against Forest And Land Fires
NAGAN RAYA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) ensured that two water pump machines were deployed to help extinguish forest and land fires (karhutla) in Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh.
Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said the portable pump is expected to accelerate the process of extinguishing the fire that burned mineral land in Cot Rambong Village, Kuala Pesisir District.
BNPB confirmed that the joint team faced a number of obstacles, ranging from limited water sources, road access that could not be passed by four-wheeled vehicles, to the direction of the wind which often changed so as to expand the spread of fire.
The latest situation, some of the hotspots were successfully extinguished. The joint team is still staying at the location to continue the extinguishing and cooling so that the fire does not spread again," said Abdul in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, August 26.
At least five hectares of land burned down as a result of the incident. There were no casualties, while the cause of the fire is still under police investigation.
Abdul reminded the public not to carry out activities that have the potential to trigger fires in vulnerable areas, considering that dry weather still increases the risk of forest and land fires.
