XAI Sues Apple And OpenAI To Texas Court For AI Competition Monopoly
JAKARTA - The artificial intelligence company (AI) owned by billionaire Elon Musk, xAI, officially sued Apple and OpenAI to a US federal court in Texas on Monday, August 25, on charges of a monopoly on AI competition.
In a lawsuit document found by Reuters, xAI said that OpenAI is working with Apple to ensure their dominance in a rapidly moving world by artificial intelligence technology.
"Cooperating, defendants Apple and OpenAI have locked the market to maintain their monopoly and prevent innovators like X and xAI from competing," the lawsuit document reads.
In the lawsuit, xAI also sued the two companies to stop the anti-competition scheme and seek billions of dollars in damages as a result of the injustice.
"If it weren't for his exclusive deal with OpenAI, Apple would have no reason to refrain from displaying the X app and the Grok app stand out more on its App Store," the company continued.
Musk first said he would sue Apple and OpenAI on August 12. At the time, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman commented that Musk's accusations were an "extraordinary claim".

"This is an extraordinary claim, given what I heard about the allegation that Elon is manipulating X to benefit himself and his company, as well as harming his competitors and people he doesn't like," Altman said on X in response to Musk's accusations.
At that time, Apple had also responded. Where in its official statement, an Apple spokesperson confirmed that they placed the ranking of all apps fairly.
"We present thousands of applications through charts, algorithmic recommendations, and a list of curation selected by experts using objective criteria," he said.
