Turkey Condemns Israeli Attack On Nasser Gaza Hospital That Killed 20 People Including 5 Journalists

JAKARTA - Turkey's presidential communications office called Israel's latest attack on Gaza an attack on press freedom and other war crimes.

Palestinian officials said 20 people, including five journalists, one of whom worked for Reuters, were killed in Nasser hospital as a result of an Israeli attack.

"Israel, which continues to commit atrocities without heeding any humanitarian or legal principles, is under the illusion that it can prevent the truth from being revealed through a systematic attack on journalists," said Burhanettin Duran, Head of the Communications Directorate, in a post on X. reported by Reuters, Monday, August 25.

The Israeli military has declared an attack on the Nasser Hospital area. Currently, the General Chief of Staff has ordered an investigation.

"The Israeli military regrets all forms of harm suffered by individuals who were not involved and did not target journalists," Israel said.

Last week, the Israeli military announced the first step in the operation to take over Gaza City.

Israel deployed tens of thousands of reserve troops while the government is considering a new ceasefire proposal to stop the war that has lasted nearly two years.

"We have started the initial and first phase of the attack on the Gaza City, and currently IDF forces have taken control of the outskirts of Gaza," said Israeli military spokesman Brigadier General Effie Defrin.

A military official said the reserve army would not serve until September. This time interval gives mediators time to bridge the gap between Hamas and Israel over the terms of the ceasefire
