Apple Considers Returning Spice Casing For IPhone 17
JAKARTA - Apple is reportedly considering reviving the bumper casing for the iPhone 17 series, a concept first introduced in 2010. According to a report from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple may have tested a new casing design for the generation of the iPhone 17, which may be aimed at a thinner "iPhone 17 Air" or "Slim" model.
This bumper case will protect the iPhone's sides, but let the back of the device fully visible, similar to transparent casings. However, the difference is that the back of the iPhone will not be covered by a clear plastic layer, thus providing a more open and aesthetic look.

This concept reminds the iPhone 4 bumper that was once very popular, even being given free of charge by Apple in 2010. This bumper is designed to protect the iPhone in a fixed way to show the original design of the device, as well as provide additional protection. The bumper stands out a little on the front and back of the iPhone, preventing scratches on the screen or rear body when placed on the surface.
This design is also considered practical for the iPhone 17, especially with the presence of a new camera bulge on the back. With a bumper, users don't have to bother adjusting the camera bulge into the casing hole, as the back is fully open.
I believe Apple has at least considered/tested a new case for the slimmer iPhone this year that surrounds the edges but doesn’t cover the back. It’s a similar concept to the iPhone 4 Bumpers from 2010. https://t.co/6HYKmUUKSP pic.twitter.com/VzQGTFlOIg

Mark Gurman is known to have a good track record in reporting information related to Apple, including product specifications and future development. This rumor is considered quite reasonable, considering that Apple is active in producing various accessories, including casings, and the history of bumpers that have been successful in the past.
Apart from bumpers, other rumors surrounding iPhone 17 accessories have also surfaced. In early August, a picture of the TechWoven casing appeared which was said to be the spiritual successor to FineWoven's material.
