Case Of Wild Dog Bites In Pekanbaru, City Government Makes Anti-rabies Vaccine Command Post

JAKARTA - Dog bites, especially those infected with rabies, can be fatal if not treated immediately. Rabies is a disease that attacks the nervous system and can cause death.

Therefore, every case of wild dog bites must be handled immediately by administering anti-rabies vaccines and other preventive measures so as not to cause an outbreak.

As a follow-up to the case of the attack on stray dogs on a number of residents in Tangkerang Timur Village, Pekanbaru City, a joint team from the Health Service (Dinkes) together with the local Agriculture and Livestock Service (Distankan) established a rabies vaccination post.

"This post was formed to anticipate rabies transmission while increasing public awareness," explained the Head of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) of the Pekanbaru City Health Office, Edi Satriawan, as quoted by ANTARA.

The post is located in front of the Mayang Nature Tourism Park, Jalan Imam Munandar, and provides free rabies vaccination services for residents. Edi also appealed to the public to ensure that pets such as dogs, cats, and monkeys get rabies vaccines regularly.

In addition to opening posts, his party also conducts field surveys to monitor the potential for post-event rabies spread. "We have coordinated across sectors to ensure prevention measures run optimally," he added.

Previously, nine residents in Tenayan Raya Subdistrict, Pekanbaru, were reported to have been bitten by brown stray dogs on Thursday (21/8). The incident occurred in several locations, including Jalan Cambodia Indah, Mangga Besar 3, Jalan H Imam Munandar in front of Toyota Agung, Jalan Singalang, to Jalan Sudimoro.

The stray dog was finally caught and paralyzed by residents. All victims were allowed to go home after receiving initial treatment, including a toddler who was also a victim.
