Organizing a 3-Day Protest, Pati Residents Send Letter Urging KPK to Arrest Sudewo in the Railway Project Case

PATI - Thousands of residents of Pati Regency, Central Java, took to the streets again on Monday, August 25th, to collect letters urging the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to immediately name Pati Regent Sudewo a suspect in an alleged corruption case involving a railway construction project.

The demonstration, which took place at Pati Square from 9:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), lasted for three days. Residents flocked to sign declaration forms urging the KPK not to delay determining Sudewo's legal status.

"It's time for the KPK to take decisive action. Sudewo himself previously returned the proceeds from the project to the KPK," said Teguh Istiyanto, Coordinator of the United Pati Community, as quoted by Antara.

Although the crowd this time was not as large as the August 13, 2025, the residents' enthusiasm remained unwavering. In addition to collecting signatures, they also collected donations. Residents who sent the letter to the KPK even covered the shipping costs themselves.

Yasit Abdullah, a resident of Sukoharjo Village, came with his wife to fill out the urging form.

"My wife and I reported this directly so that Mr. Sudewo can be processed as quickly as possible by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)," he said.

A similar demonstration was held on Friday, August 22, when dozens of Pati residents sent a letter to the KPK with the same demands. Now, the residents' voices are growing louder: they want this case resolved immediately and the regent held accountable under the law.
