Duara Presents Memento Mori in a Reflective and Cinematic Arrangement
JAKARTA - Jakarta-based duo Duara are back after a long period of silence. This time, they're trying to capture listeners' attention with a new single, "Memento Mori."
Released on Friday, August 22nd, this song serves as the lead-in to their four-track EP, "In The Moment," which will follow a week later (August 29th) via the independent label MABES Music.
Duara themselves have an eclectic musical style. They straddle the intersection of Indie Pop, Ambient, Dream Pop, and Jazzy Cinematic Pop. But beyond genre definition, their music is a medium for getting lost in one's own thoughts during a quiet night, becoming a familiar echo.
"Memento Mori" revolves around themes of pain, resilience, and memories that never truly disappear. The lyrics are short and repetitive, but that's precisely where you can breathe—to absorb them.
What makes this song special is Ricky Virgana's cello, which creates a cinematic feel, as if time is slowing down. Renita Martadinata's soft vocals float above Robert Mulyarahardja's minimalist guitar arrangement and programming, enhanced by Kelvin Andreas' percussive touches and Anugrah Swastadi's atmospheric production.
The result is a song that unfolds slowly, allowing the listener to sink into the silence. Memento Mori is available on various digital music streaming platforms.
