Manchester United Will Be Sold, Inni Explanation Of Klausa Glazer-Ratcliffe

JAKARTA - Manchester United (MU) is now technically back on sale following the activeness of one of the important clauses in the deal between Sir Jim Radcliffe and the Glazer family this month.

Klausa is known as drag-along clause, a business provision commonly used to expedite the company's sales process.

In the context of Manchester United, this clause authorized the Glazer family as majority owners to sell the entire club's shares to third parties and force all other shareholders, including Ratcliffe's INEOS, to share in releasing their holdings.

Citing Antara, this provision comes into effect after 18 months since Radcliffe completed its investment process in February 2024. This means that since August 2025, Glazer can legally activate the option, provided that there is a minimum offer of 33 US dollars per share, which is the same value when Radcliffe bought 27.7 percent of its initial shares at the club.

However, Ratcliffe still has the right to equal the value of the offer from outside so that it can still defend its shares.

In addition, the sales decision must also be approved by the club council, including representatives from INEOS itself. This situation makes the process of releasing shares depending on the club's internal business and political calculations.

Since buying some of United's shares for the first time, Ratcliffe has increased its holdings to 28.94 percent by the end of 2024 after injecting an additional 79.3 million pounds. He has also invested up to 223 million pounds to finance the newly completed Carrington training facility update.

Manchester United is the world's largest football club, said Radcliffe at the inauguration ceremony of the Carrington training facility quoted from the club's official website. He said that the club's global identity demands world-class facilities that are able to support the ambition of winning the Premier League back in 2028.

Ratcliffe's presence was welcomed by the Glazer family. The relationship between the two sides is said to be still harmonious and professional. In fact, Avram Glazer was seen several times sitting with Radcliffe while watching the match at the stadium.

In an interview with The Times, Ratcliffe stated that the Glazer family is an honest, polite and dedicated partner to the club. Contrary to the views of fans who feel disappointed when the club is in possession of the Glazer family.

Meanwhile, the potential return of offers from outside parties such as Sheikh Jassim from Qatar, who used to be a competitor to INEOS, now looks small. Although in 2023 he made an offer of 5.5 billion pounds to acquire the entire club's shares, the process failed. There is no indication that he will return in negotiations.

Although Manchester United are technically open to sale, there are no concrete signs that the Glazer family plans to relinquish its holdings. On the other hand, they seem satisfied with the long-term investment and vision brought by Ratcliffe.

The next decision from the Glazer family and Sir Jim Ratelege could have a major impact on the club's direction in the next few years.
