US Citizens Tested Positive After Allegedly Bitten By Kutuk, Health Authority Opens Voice
JAKARTA - A resident of South Lake Tahoe in California, United States has tested positive for pes (plague) after being allegedly bitten by an infected tick. This information was announced by the El Dorado District Health Office after receiving an official report from the California Department of Public Health.
According to information from the Environmental Management Division and the El Dorado County Public Health Division, it is likely that the resident was bitten by a tick while camping in the South Lake Tahoe area. Currently, the patient has received medical treatment and is reportedly undergoing recovery at home.
"Pesakit memang secara alami ada di banyak wilayah California, termasuk daerah dengan ketinggian lebih tinggi di El Dorado County," ujar Kyle Fleft, Pelaksana Tugas Direktur Kesehatan Masyarakat El Dorado County, dikutip dari laman Fox40 News.
"Therefore, it is very important for the community to take preventive steps for themselves and pets, especially when outdoors such as walking, hiking, or camping in areas inhabited by wildowers," he continued.
Penyakit pes disebabkan oleh bacterinis Yersinia pestis, yang umum menular melalui tetehan satu. Kutu ini biasanya terinfeksi setelah menganut sergurus, pusong tanah, rat, atau awan basil liar lainnya.
Health officials also reminded that dogs and cats can bring pes bacterial ticks into the house. Humans can be infected if they are bitten by the tick.
"Pes can be prevented by avoiding direct contact with wildAUts, as well as keeping pets from approaching rat or squirrel nests," explained local health officials.
Symptoms
Pes symptoms usually appear within two weeks of exposure to sickles or infected animals. Symptoms include fever, nausea, the body feels weak, to the swelling of the lymph node. Fortunately, this disease can be treated with antibiotics if detected from an early age.
From 2021 to 2024, monitoring the population of seaguides in El Dorado County found 41 animals with evidence of exposure to pes bacteria. Meanwhile, in 2025, four additional tails were found positive in the Tahoe Basin area. The authorities did not reveal the identities of the infected residents.
"The patient's name will not be published for the sake of maintaining privacy," said Carla B. Hass, Deputy Chief of Administrative El Dorado Regency.
