Not Everyone Can Demand Royalty Transparency, This Is The Explanation Of LMKN Commissioner Marcell Siahaan
JAKARTA - Marcell Siahaan highlighted the wide public demand for the performance of the National Collective Management Institute (LMKN) and the Collective Management Institute (LMK) in managing song/music royalties.
The singer who was re-elected as the LMKN Commissioner for the 2025-2028 period said that there are still many people who do not understand when talking about transparency in royalty management.
"This must also be straightened out, sometimes people out there when they talk about transparency, they don't understand what they are talking about," Marcell told the media crew at the DPR/MPR RI Complex, Central Jakarta, Thursday, August 21.
"So, this is part of socialization and education, what if we talk about transparency, we know what is actually (called) transparency? Where is transparency? Which part do we want to participate in? Don't let what we want participate in LMK transparency, we are angry with LMKN," he added.
Moreover, on social media, Marcell questioned the interests of netizens in the country, who recently intensively voiced transparency in royalty management.

He said that each LMK is only obliged to provide data on royalty management to its members, and not others.
"That's why it's like netizens asking about transparency. Remember, that members give power of attorney to LMK. So, there is also an obligation from LMK so that the data is not (disclosed) out," said Marcell.
"So if outsiders ask about transparency, what is the urgency to let them know?" he said.
The singer, who has a Bachelor of Law's degree, suggested that if there are songwriters, copyright holders or related rights who question clarity regarding royalties, they can be asked to the LMK where they belongs.
"So, when the transparency is related to LMK, let the member ask LMK where he is a member," he said.
