Ministry Of Transportation: Three Lives Skyrocket Every Hour Due To Traffic Accidents
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) through the Directorate General of Land Transportation (Hubdat) revealed that within one hour three people died as a result of traffic accidents.
Director General of Land Transportation Aan Suhaan said traffic accidents were the highest causes of death. In fact, it falls into the top three categories after TBC and HIV Aids.
Three people died, as a result of an accident and then ran. It means that the sea contributed, from the donated train, from the air, to the ground. But from the ground, every hour three people die," he said in a discussion at the Ministry of Transportation Office, Jakarta, Thursday, August 20.
Therefore, according to Aan, this number needs to be reduced. Because, this will have an impact on poverty to other social problems.
"The impact is not only on life, but the impact on poverty, on social problems, maybe culture. This has a huge impact," he said.
"This means that if the father of the children dies, there are children who become orphans. If his mother and father die, there are orphans. That has the potential for poverty," he continued.
For this reason, continued Aan, the Ministry of Transportation has made several mitigation steps in reducing the number of road accidents that have a wide impact on poverty. One of them is ensuring that vehicles operating in the country have gone through roadworthy and technical tests.
Currently, said Aan, Indonesia currently has international standard proving ground in Bekasi, West Java.
Aan said that every vehicle that will be mass marketed must pass the test at that place.

Furthermore, Aan said, the province ground, which was only operated in early August 2025, made the feasibility test process very easy.
The reason is, automotive companies in the country can carry out feasibility tests in their own country as of August 7, 2025, while previously they must be sent abroad.
"In the past, before the 7th, the vehicle manufacturers in us, which were produced in Indonesia, had to test their vehicles abroad. Some went to Japan, some went to Europe, some went to Vietnam, Thailand. Currently we already have the proving ground to test vehicles that will be mass produced," he said.
