Vivo Vision MR Headset Introduced With 8K Double Screen And World's Longest Design
Vivo has just introduced its first mixed reality (MR) headset, Vivo Vision Explorer Edition, in their latest launch event. It marked Vivo's debut in the mixed reality realm, and they took an interesting approach by starting from a live demo experience before the headset was officially sold.
What really stands out from this headset is its very light weight, only 398 grams. In comparison, the Apple Vision Pro weighs more than 600 grams, so Vivo managed to cut weight significantly. They achieved this with a separate design that uses magnesium alloy components, making it sturdy but still light.
This headset is also quite compact with a height of 83 mm and a thickness of 40 mm. Vivo thinks about the convenience of users by providing facial masks that can be adjusted, different foam pad options, and fast-removable double-binding ropes for easy adjustments.

On the inside, this headset is equipped with a Micro-OLED 8K double screen of 3840\times 3552 per eye. The color reproduction is excellent with 94% DCI-P3 coverage and impressive color accuracy.
Each headset is calibrated at the plant to ensure consistent brightness and color for both eyes. For users wearing glasses, magnetic optical lenses are available to support recipes from 100 to 1000 degrees without compromising the visual experience.
The headset is powered by Qualcomm's newest Snapdragon XR2+ chip, which Vivo says offers 2.5 times better performance than previous generations. Vivo is also building their own OriginOS Vision interface, which allows experiences such as immersively watching movies, re-playing sports in spatial format, and setting multi-view productivity.
Its passthrough feature is impressive with only 13ms latency for full-colored videos, making the transition between real and virtual worlds feel smooth. For interaction, this headset tracks eye movements with a precision of 1.5 degrees and recognizes hand gestures with 26 degrees of freedom within a vertical range of 175 degrees, enabling natural control using the eyes and hands.
In terms of content, Vivo has prepared exclusive experiences such as Drum Master' and Little V's Journey. They also work with companies such as Migu for sports content and make this headset compatible with PCs and smartphones for wireless streaming. There is also a spatial photo feature compatible with Vivo and iQOO phones.
Prices and Availability
However, this headset cannot be purchased yet. Starting August 22, Vivo will open demo stations at 12 official stores in major Chinese cities such as Beijing and Shenzhen, with more locations to follow. They want users to try this headset first.
Regarding the price, there has been no official announcement yet, but Vivo executives hint that the price may be around 10,000 yuan (around Rp. 22.7 million) or lower. Vivo's Chief Operating Officer said that smartphones are starting to get popular in China when the price is only 20-30% more expensive than basic phones, so they are clearly trying to target affordable prices for wider MR adoption.
This is an interesting strategy, focusing on lighter designs and more affordable prices than including all possible features. We will see if this approach works when the user starts trying it.
