Banda Aceh Immigration Arrests A Foreigner Who Ask For Donations Of Rohingya Refugees

BANDA ACEH - Officers of the Class I Immigration Office of TPI Banda Aceh secure a foreign national (WNA) while soliciting community donations for Rohingya refugees in Pidie District.

Head of Immigration Office Class I TPI Banda Aceh Telmaizul Syatri in Banda Aceh, Monday, said the WNA is known to be Rohingya ethnic immigrants who have been accommodated in Medan, North Sumatra.

"The person concerned is Ashorozama, 65 years old, with a UNHCR identity card that is valid for January 10, 2021," Telmaizul Syatri said, as reported by Antara on Monday, May 10.

Telmaizul Syatri said the existence of foreigners in the Pidie District conducting community fundraising is known based on information received by the Head of Pidie State Prosecutor's Office.

"The information mentions a suspicious foreigner requesting donations to Rohingya refugees. Furthermore, the information is submitted to the Banda Aceh Immigration Office," said Telmaizul Syatri.

Based on this information, the Banda Aceh Immigration office lowered the team to secure the foreign nationals. From the results of the examination, the Rohingya refugees who entered Indonesia in Krueng Raya, Aceh Besar, in 2012.

The foreign nationals have been accommodated by the UNHCR cross-border refugee agency in Medan, North Sumatra. Furthermore, the concerned person is immediately handed over to the UNHCR.

According to him, by securing foreign nationals who conduct fundraising outside the area of placement is an indicator of the need to increase vigilance and supervision of refugees from other countries.

"Such security measures can be followed up immediately based on coordination with law enforcement agencies who are members of the foreign surveillance team," said Telmaizul Syatri.
